The only thing more exciting than a new school year is a brand-new school. If you’ve been following the new high school progress at Mantua, you already know that a new onsite high school will open its doors to students within the community by summer 2024.

This new Van Alstyne High School will be located on a 103-acre site directly south of the Grayson College campus on Collin McKinney Parkway right here in Mantua! That’s right on the north edge of our master-planned community, so students who live in Mantua will be able to walk or ride their bikes to class. Construction is underway, and we anticipate a grand opening in the summer of 2024, just before classes start for the 2024-2025 school year. We’ll be sure to share more information about registration, enrollment, and other details as the big day draws closer!

Van Alstyne ISD acquired the land for the new Van Alstyne High School for $1.5 million in 2019 and held the groundbreaking ceremony on May 10, 2022. WR Architects in Dallas, a firm that’s been designing “next-generation schools” for decades, designed the new school, and Gallagher Construction Services of Richardson, TX is building it. Gallagher specializes in working with independent school districts, municipalities, institutes of higher education, and government agencies. The company has been building quality schools and similar buildings since 1968, earning a reputation for excellence along the way. We’re very excited to have both of these companies working on our newest school!

What can you expect to see as the new high school progress gets underway? The design concept for the new Van Alstyne High School features a media center, administrative offices, a dining hall, fine arts areas, science labs, and core classrooms all spread across a cutting edge, two-story, 273,00-square-foot educational facility.

When the new high school opens its doors, it will serve up to 1,000 students in grades 9-12. A planned expansion will include additional athletic facilities and room to accommodate 2,800 students. The high school will feature career and technical education (CTE) programs including A/V tech, broadcasting, business information systems, family and consumer sciences (FCS), culinary programs, robotics and engineering, and an agriculture shop, to name a few.
